Boy killed in battle in Students` Town

On 04.12.2009 a boy was killed in battle in Students` Town in front of club Amnezia. SROKSOS repeatedly warned state and municipal authorities of the existence of prerequisites for such incidents . Reports, tenders, applications, complaints were filed signatures to Parliament, the Council of Ministers, Presidency, Ministry of Education, Municipality. These institutions have not taken and minimum measures to prevent such incidents. Since its founding SROKSOS asks for a moratorium on opening new restaurants and entertainments available in the reduction of Students` Town - facilities that generate noise and create many conflict situations.
The reason for this tragic incident is just a new disco club in the “ex”-student township.
Students` Town is an ex student township, because at the moment is converted into "Las Vegas" of Bulgaria - the center of criminal business interests, state, municipal and university disinterestedness.
Despite the huge investment flows, income from fees, rents, licenses and other revenues, inadequate administration for years refused to put any lighting in Students` Town.
Gardens, parks, spaces around the blocks wallow in darkness and terrain suitable for violence, robbery, rape, attacks of stray dogs.
Students` Town is a dangerous place to live and this incident is not isolated case of violence and death.
Most cases are passed over silience because of the normative chaos, business interests, academic autonomy and errandness journalism.
The response of the public services is in very inadequate level - the incident became near police station, an ambulance arrived with great delay.All institutions are made of surprise although battles and violence in front of the disco clubs is something usual. Even passing nearby citizens (students) are so accustomed to similar situations that do not react in time and did not alert the police immediately.
This death raises the following question - after claims that students need to have Happy, why facilities are full of "operational interesting” people, and parks, gardens, sidewalks are blocked by expensive cars with registration of Sofia – that is to say, that the contingent in these “students pubs” has nothing to do with the young people placed in the Students` town. Students need a peaceful and secure environment rather than loud music institutions.
Court and Prosecutor's Office also responded in a way typical of them - complete lack of ethics and professionalism.

The errandness journalism in Bulgaria skillfully manipulated public opinion.
There was no drunken fray and fights between gangs (media releases). Three students were beaten by three enormous bigger group that is hidden from society.
The media tries to represent the Bulgarian students as alcoholics and people second quality, and that what happens to them is normal. The unfair journalism, however, confused in their arguments – Reports are shown that in Students` Town there are school children, congestion gardens of expensive cars with registration of Sofia.
The truth is that the students are minority in these entertainments because of people in no way associated with universities and training. All media reported for the killed pharmacy student and his fellow students, but they hardly passed the information if the killers have anything to do with student education.

Thousands of colleagues have expressed sympathy to the tragedy of Stoyan, the battle continues!

SROKSOS, together with other NGOs and movements organized the largest spontaneous and free of politicial parties student protest against the government, for the development and life of educated young people.
Our protest was against:

- Corrupt and insensitive to the lives of students judiciary;

- The dirty place that became Students` Town, thanks to politicians and the “mugs”.
